Temporary lights causing “gridlock” traffic near Bushey Arches are expected to last for two more days.

The multi-way traffic signals have been in place since yesterday evening (May 7) as Affinity Water is working on unspecified “emergency” repair works in Lower High Street, Watford.

According to One Network, the 24/7 lights are expected to last until the end of May 10. However, emergency works are unplanned and therefore the actual timings can be significantly different to estimations.

During the morning commute today (May 8), drivers reported being stuck in “gridlock”, with long delays lasting past 10am.

One motorist told the Watford Observer that traffic was “complete chaos” near the lights, with queues even stretching as far back as Bushey High Street.

Affinity Water’s work description said: “We're currently carrying out essential maintenance in your area.

"This work is part of our ongoing efforts to improve our service to you.

“During these types of works, there may be some disruption to road users, please factor this into any journeys you make during this time.”

The footway has not been closed.
