A Watford woman celebrated her 100th birthday with family and a lifelong friend.

Kathleen Stanbridge, known as kitty, marked her centenary on Monday, January 6 at Prince Michael of Kent Court in Stratford Road.

She was born in Lambeth, and had one brother and one sister and lived in London. Kitty was married to Robert Charles Stanbridge. They later moved to Worthing, West Sussex.

The couple were married for 57 years, before Mr Stanbridge passed away in 2000.

Mrs Stanbridge worked at Pearl Assurance all her working life, and is still friends with Marjorie Clifton who worked there with her, and she came to celebrate with her.

Tracy Lydon, activities coordinator, said: "Kitty has lived at Prince Michael since 2010 and is a still a very active lady who is very sociable and enjoys going on outings and out with her family."

Mrs Stanbridge celebrated her birthday with a party surrounded by her family and friends.

She said: "It is a wonderful occasion and I’m very happy".

Kitty was presented her birthday card from the Queen by home manager Elizabeth Corbett who said a few words to wish Kitty congratulations on this special day.
