Voting has now opened for young candidates across Hertfordshire to be elected to represent their respective districts.

Ten district elections are taking place, with schools and youth projects being encouraged to support their local candidate(s).

Throughout their term of office, members of the Youth Parliament (MYPs) meet MPs and local councillors, organise events, run campaigns, make speeches, hold debates, and ensure the views of young people are heard by decision-makers.

As well as voting for their elected representative, young people will also be voting for their top three issues in Hertfordshire. These will form the mandate for the MYPs and the Hertfordshire Young People’s Manifesto 2014/15.

There are now over 600 elected Members and Deputy Members of Youth Parliament in the UK representing their peers and encouraging the government, charities, companies and other organisations to take their views seriously.

Voting started today and runs until midday on February 14. For more information visit: youthconnexions.org or emailyouth.connexions@hertfordshire.gov.uk.
