Pupils at a school in Bushey were treated to a visit from Arsenal FC defender Kieran Gibbs yesterday as part of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup.

Gibbs arrived at Queens' School, in Aldenham Road, to support the PlayStation Schools’ Cup U15 girls quarter final fixture between Queens’ and Lynn Grove School in Great Yarmouth.

Watford Observer:

The home side secured a 5-2 victory over the visiting team and booked themselves a place in the semi-finals of the schools tournament.

Kieran Gibbs said: "I had an amazing day visiting Queens’ school today and it was fantastic to see grassroots football being supported to this level.

"I enjoyed taking part in a few drills with the girls prior to kick off and was really impressed by their ability."

PlayStation’s partnership with the English Schools’ FA has already helped increase both boys’ and girls’ tournaments for the U12, U13, U14 and U15 secondary school age categories, attracting close to 2,000 school entries and 100,000 participants throughout England.

The finals will take place at the PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival in May, 2014.

Sarah Steadman, U15 England girls coach and teacher at Queens’ School said: "It was an amazing day and the staff and pupils enjoyed every minute of it. Kieran Gibbs was very supportive of the teams and competition and it has given us a fantastic chance to reach the finals in May."

Gibbs also supported an interview session with the school’s aspiring journalists, answering a series of complex questions for the school’s magazine.
