Flowering bulbs donated by Jacque Amand, an international bulb importer with a nursery at Harrow Weald, were presented to the Green Canteen on the Meriden Estate this week.

Staff from the nursery and volunteers at the canteen dodged the showers to pot the bulbs ready for sale later in the spring. Amand’s nursery regularly wins Gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show and other leading flower shows at home and abroad.

The Green Canteen is a place where you can pick up gardening and horticultural skills, either as a volunteer or on a three-week course for just £10.

The Green Canteen has been developed in partnership with Herts Mind Network, and it is based between 24 and 26 Garsmouth Way on the Meriden estate.

It is a social enterprise, which means it is a business which is good for the local community and the environment.
