Police are appealing for information from North Watford residents who believe they have been approached by companies offering building or gardening works in suspicious circumstances.

Hertfordshire Constabulary are investigating a fraud offence after men, who were allegedly working for a company called JH Groundworks, went to a house in Fern Way and carried out repairs on a roof before charging a man a large amount of money.

Detective Constable Tony Bradshaw, investigating officer from Operation Manhunt, said: "I would appeal to anyone else who believes they have been approached by a company of this name or similar in the last few weeks to contact police if they haven’t done so already. I would also be keen to hear from anyone who may have had a leaflet put through to the door about this.

"I would also like to take the opportunity to remind people, particularly the elderly, never to commit to work being carried out there and then, seek a second opinion. If you think a rogue trader is at the door call police on 999. If you have elderly neighbours and see anything suspicious I would encourage you to check on them or call 101 with information."

Anyone with information can call 101 quoting crime reference number C4/14/225 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
