The museum in Bushey has planned a series of commemorative exhibitions to mark the centenary of the death of Sir Hubert von Herkomer.

The first exhibition will consist of pictures from the British painter, and pioneering film-director and composer's own photographic album.

At the same time, the album itself will be displayed in the Jubilee Case, along with other pictures. This will take place from March 22 to June 29.

From April 26 to September 7, an exhibition in the Art Gallery will be of drawings by Herkomer and students of the Herkomer Art School.

This will be followed by the Museum’s main Herkomer Centenary Exhibition, consisting of Herkomer paintings, and memorabilia. This will take place from June 29 to January 11, 2015.

Finally, from September 13 to January 11, 2015, the Art Gallery and the Herkomer Room together will display items from Lululaund, Herkomer’s home, which stood in Melbourne Road.

Hugh Lewis’s talk about Herkomer to the Friends of Bushey Museum at 8pm on March 18 in the Bushey Centre will serve as a prelude to this series of exhibitions.

The anniversary of Sir Hubert von Herkomer is March 31.
