Watford’s MP Richard Harrington is offering local primary school pupils the chance to win £150 worth of books for their school.
The Reading Poster Challenge, which Mr Harrington has set up, asks young people in Watford to design a poster, which explains why they love to read or why they think reading is great.
The poster could include an original short story, a book cover design, or even a picture of a scene from a favourite book. Children can be as creative as possible, as long as the poster is A4 in size, and shows the love of reading.
Mr Harrington said: "We all know the benefits of reading and children who read for pleasure, and not just at school, typically do even better in other subjects too. I think it is important for children to discover the joy of reading at a young age, and hopefully getting them to show why they love it to their classmates will mean even more books are read in Watford this year."
Entries are open from March 6, World Book Day, and can be emailed to richard@richardharrington.org.uk or dropped off at 30 The Avenue, Watford, WD17 4NS.
Every child who enters will receive a certificate. The entry must include the child’s name, age, school, address and contact details of a parent or carer.
The competition closes on May 1 and all children at primary school in or around Watford, or children under the age of 11 living in the Watford area, are eligible to enter.
