The address made famous by the world's favourite wizard has come onto the market for the first time since it was built.

Number 4, Privet Drive appeared in the Harry Potter series, and was the house in which the young wizard grew up. However, it is the real-life home of the Hussain family.

The house is in a private road in Leavesden, close to the Warner Bros Studios where the franchise was filmed, and has come onto the market for the first time since it was built in 2012.

Dee Hussain currently lives at the famous address with her husband, daughter, Mariyah, 10 and son, Zaine, 15.

Mrs Hussain said: "When we bought the house we didn’t realise the significance of the address. But then when I said it to my son, who was reading the books at the time, he was like ‘oh my god, that’s Harry Potter’s house’. The house was reserved by someone else but then they pulled out and we pestered the estate agent and managed to secure it. It was totally luck that we got it and I didn’t understand the importance of the address at the time."

Watford Observer:

The family receive post from children all around the world, who are attempting to write to Harry Potter. Being so close to the Harry Potter studio tour, they often invite friends and family to take photos outside their house before visiting the Leavesden attraction.

Mrs Hussain said: "Both my kids are really big fans of the books and they were so excited when we got the house. My son grew up with them and was the age when they were all first coming out.

"They’ve got the boxset and have got a Harry Potter t-shirt. My daughter’s friend is the biggest Harry Potter fan, she is a fanatic and absolutely obsessed with it. When we got the house and my daughter told her she was so excited to come round and took loads of photos. I think my daughter has gained lots of new friends because of it."

Currently, the private road does not appear on any maps and not many people are aware of its existence.

Mrs Hussain said: "People don’t really know we’re here, so we wanted to make people aware. Even Watford Borough Council didn’t know we were here, the woman I spoke to said ‘that’s not a real address’. When we booked tickets to the studio tour and told them our address the woman on the phone thought I was taking the mick."

She added: "My kids are so sad to be leaving but it’s really nice to be able to say that we once lived here. It’s been a very special time."

The house is being sold by a local estate agent and will also be listed on internet auction site eBay.

Says a lot about contemporary architecture when any house built since the mid 90s could claim to be the Harry Potter house.

Well, there's only a handful that have been actual locations appearing in the films... which film is this one in?

The article (currently) says that the house was built in 2012, but the last HP film was released before that.

Have they got the wrong house, or has the WO screwed up again? I vote for the later

It is NOT the house used in the films. It is in a development squeezed onto a plot on Leavesden High Road, (they managed to get about 9 houses onto the plot of 2 bungalows - how it got past planning permission is dubious to say the least) - each house has a postage stamp sized footprint. They named the development 'Privet Drive' obviously in attempt to cash in on the HP films. The actual house used is on the Leavesden development I believe, but the road is not called Privet Drive, and is off the studio access road, not Leavesden High Road.

I suppose it is the WO's job to help sell peoples' shoebox houses for them on a slow news day.

It seems like a light hearted story but a great one if you are a huge harry potter fan like me and my family are, its nice to have some connection locally to the wizard , regardless of what they paid and what they want for it its nice to know there is a privet drive in my home town, you guys obviously dont have children to appreciate what it means to them, we have 4 and they love the idea the harry potters house is around the corner , good luck to the family i only wish i owned it. :(

If the Watford Observer want a real story they should talk to the neighbours about how planning permission was granted for the development.

Bit of a non story here, this isn't the Harry Potter house and hasn't been in any of the films! I suppose it's worth a try to get publicity and inflate a house price.

Wonder why they have stayed less than 2 years if it is such a wonderful house, has 5 bedrooms so plenty of space for any family

Its ONLY a paper article, dont take it personally guys its about the imagination of children and im sure JK would'nt care how long the family have lived there or how many bedrooms it has but the fact that watford has something special for our kids to talk about, sometimes fantasy is a sanctury from reality.

The original house used is in actual fact in Martins Heron Bracknell Berkshire and was only used in the first film, it wasn't in a road called Privet Drive nor was it number 4. After this a set was built in the studio and continually used in the rest of the film series. I am not sure that a house should get an inflated price by misrepresentation of it's history.

Well said just about everyone so far.

There is no story - just hype for a fast buck.

Years ago they tried to sell John Lennon's old home way way way above market value and that fell flat - hope this one does too.
