Over 200 people attended a post Sabbath celebration in honour of Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis’ first visit to Bushey Shul since his induction.

Bushey Synagogue held the festivities last week, which were attended by Hertsmere MP Mr James Clappison, Mayor of Hertsmere, councillor Paul Morris OBE, Rabbi Salasnik and Rabbi Richards and Bushey Synagogue chairman Mr Stephen Roston.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis told the group to be proud of their Jewish identity.

He said: "We need to identify what we have in common across the broader Jewish community to build and strengthen it.

"But we also need to recognise that there are differences.  Knowing when to stand together and where to highlight differences is a challenge.  While the environment has an impact on us, having a strong sense of our Jewish identity is the secret to the continuity of the Jewish people.

"It is important to stand up with pride, showing our commitment to our orthodox values and customs."
