Watford bus route 142’s centenary was celebrated in style by the running of vintage buses between Watford and Kilburn on Sunday.
Hundreds of people and bus enthusiasts were able to travel on authentic London buses dating back to the 1930s on the 142 and also the 158 (Watford-Harrow), 306 (Watford-Borehamwood), 311 (Watford-Shenley), 346 (Oxhey Estate) and 347 (Watford-Northwood).
Special recreations were enacted on the old School Special route 346D from Bushey Grammar School (now Queens’) to Oxhey, the hospital visitors’ route 345 from Bushey to Napsbury, and on the old Knightswood Coaches market day service from Elstree Aerodrome to Watford.
Around 20 old timers were used at the event which was based at Watford Junction bus interchange, organised by the Amersham & District Motorbus Society with assistance from Arriva the Shires, London Midland Trains and Bugler Developments.
