A synagogue from Radlett has raised over £1,000 for a primary school in Zimbabwe.

Radlett and Bushey Reform Synagogue (RBRS) celebrated ten years of service by their caretaker Chris Maphosa by staging a production of "The Rain that Washes" - based on Chris’ story of growing up in politically turbulent Zimbabwe.

The writer and director Dave Carey said he had created the play from many conversations with Mr Maphosa and that it had toured the country, including at the recent Edinburgh Fringe, but the 130 strong audience at RBRS was the largest to date.

The profits from the evening together with a collection, led to a cheque of £1,370 being presented for Gohole No2 primary school in Chris’ home town in Zimbabwe.

Mr Maphosa said: "I’m overwhelmed by the support and the amount raised. The parents of the children at this school can barely afford to send their children to school with a ball point pen, this will make an enormous difference to their lives."
