A busy roundabout in the Cassiobury estate in Watford will be partially closed from next week as an extensive programme of improvements gets underway.

Workmen will begin an eight-week scheme around the Langley Road roundabout on Tuesday, May 6, which will see temporary traffic lights in action and pavements closed off.

The works will also mean that there will be periods where the parking bays around the roundabout will be unavailable.

The £180,000 revamp will see new parking bays created in front of the shops as well as improvements made to pavements, pedestrian crossings, bus stops, street lighting and traffic signs.

The works are due to take place between 7.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

The scheme, which is a joint venture between Hertfordshire County Council and Watford Borough Council, is being carried out by contractors Ringway.

Rob Smith, deputy director of environment at Hertfordshire County Council, said: "These works form part of Hertfordshire County Council's on-going commitment to maintain and improve our roads for the benefit of all road users in Hertfordshire.

"We appreciate that this is a busy junction and understand that these works are likely to cause a degree of inconvenience to road users. We apologise for this and would ask everyone for their co-operation while the work is in progress."
