An overturned van in west Watford has caused chaos this afternoon.

The Volkswagen transporter crashed into the fence outside The Westfield Academy and is currently on its side.

Police were called at 2.09pm and the whole of Tolpits Lane has been closed.

Firefighters, police and paramedics are on the scene. A man was assessed by paramedics but was not injured.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said staff from the school are helping children leave the premises.

The vehicle needs to be recovered and the Highways Agency has been called.

I've reported that stretch on FixMyStreet for it's bad surface at least twice in the last few months and nothing has been done! I wouldn't be surprised if a cyclist swerved in front of the Van or a Pedestrian tripped crossing the road at the island causing it to lose control.

Whatever the cause, I'd be asking my Insurance company to sue the County Council for neglect.

Yes,lets blame the potholes/cyclists and pedestrians.God forbid it was anything to do with the driver!!! Maybe (and yes ive seen this) he/she was on their phones, texting, whate
ver...When you are in control of a dangerous vehicle, you need to be 100 IN CONTROL!! Maybe it was just a simple blow out,who knows except the driver and those in close proximity!

Today I received an e-mail from Herts County Council regarding my complaint about this self same stretch of road! It seems it's about to be resurfaced - I wonder why?
