A hospital radio station has been given a cheque for nearly £2,000.

Northwood Women's Area Club (NAWC) presented the cheque to Watford Hospital Radio last Thursday.

The group raised the £1,879 by holding a number of events over the past year.

Angela Goulder, the hospital’s head of publicity and patient liaison, said: "We are unbelievably grateful for the local support provided by NWAC.

"Watford Hospital Radio broadcasts to a large number of patients on bedside media units and via speakers in waiting areas such as A&E.

"Our soul aim is to brighten the patients' stay. We are a vital and unique service able to provide an instant face-to-face connection, with our ward visiting for requests. That personal connection is something lacking from individual music devices such as smart phones. Sadly not all areas of the hospital receive our free service at present and we hope to use some of the money raised to address this.

"Hospital Radio is a vital service and we strive to make every patient’s stay a little brighter but this service requires a constant injection of cash to fund equipment renewals and to ensure we keep up to date with advances in technology."
