Croxley Green is one step closer to getting a new secondary school.

The Department for Education will consider the proposals for a new school in Baldwins Lane after parents voiced their support for the scheme.

St Clement Danes School, in Chorleywood, is leading the bid to deliver the new building by September 2016 and will submit a detailed application to the Department for Education in September.

Dr Josephine Valentine, headteacher at St Clement Danes School, announced the proposals in February and stressed that the application could only proceed if 90 parents from Year 3 and a further 90 from Year 4 pupils supported the plans.

Dr Valentine said: "We are thrilled by the support we have received from parents.  We needed 180 parents to complete a parental support survey saying they would send their child to the Croxley Green Secondary School.

"So far, we have received more than 200 surveys and they continue to come in to our offices every day."

The school, which is planned to be built on a horses field in Baldwins Lane, will be six forms of entry, with an intake of 180 pupils.

St Clement Danes School was asked by Hertfordshire County Council to deliver and sponsor a new secondary school to address the predicted shortfall of school places from 2016 onwards.

The Educational Funding Agency and the Department for Education will make a decision on the Croxley Green Secondary School early next year.

If the plans are agreed, the new school will be open to Year 7 students in September 2016.
