A Watford FC fan from Oxhey who embarked on a five-month charity cycle ride, encompassing 12 stadiums in Brazil, has raised more than £3,000 - and he’s still going.

Andy Smith will visit all 12 stadiums used in the 2014 football World Cup, and is raising the funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust.

The 35-year-old’s parents, Roger and Celia, of Oxhey Road, have just checked in with their intrepid son between Natal and Fortaleza.

Roger, 67, said: "He’s doing 8,000 kilometres across Brazil single-handed, unaccompanied and unsupported.

"We managed to get out and see him in Natal.

"We’re extremely proud of him. He’s shed some weight and is looking fit and tanned and very happy with what he’s doing."

Andy has now visited ten of the 12 stadiums and has become a bit of a personality in Brazil.

On his way to Fortaleza Andy was stopped by a Federal Police officer who offered him accommodation and hospitality.
