Motorists could face rush-hour delays as part of the M25 is set to remain shut for several hours due to extensive road surface damage following a fuel spill this morning.
Diesel spilt on to the anticlockwise exit slip road to the M1 at Junction 21 after a lorry and Ford Focus crashed at about 10.44am.
The slip road was closed due to fuel leaking across the road from the lorry, causing queues on the main carriageway in both directions.
The Highways Agency report that access to the M1 northbound from the M25 at Junction 21 is likely to be closed for several hours.
Both vehicles had to be recovered and there are no reports of anyone being injured.
Part of the carriageway will need to be resurfaced.
