A man has been arrested after an elderly woman from Rickmansworth was targeted in a phone scam.

The 21-year-old was arrested in London on suspicion of fraud by false representations after the 70-year-old fell for a con trick.

Assistant Investigator Kevin Deudon said: "Arrests in connection to phone scams will continue to be made but the public still need to be aware of the scams operating across the county.

"It is often the elderly and vulnerable who are targeted and so I would urge the public to share the following advice with their relatives, friends and neighbours.

"All unexpected calls should be treated with caution. If you are suspicious about a telephone conversation, please do not be afraid to end the call and contact police via the non-emergency number, 101.

"Remember to use a mobile phone or a friend’s phone or wait at least five minutes before calling to ensure you aren’t reconnected to the offender.”

Mr Deudon added that the police or bank would never ask people for their bank details over the phone, or to withdraw money and ask it or bank cards to be sent to them.
