An appeal lodged by the Three Horseshoes against Hertsmere Borough Council’s decision to deny planning permission in Letchmore Heath has been dismissed.

The pub, which was listed as a community asset last year, had applied to expand and build a new four bedroom house - however were turned down because its proposed size was deemed too big and would not be in keeping with the character of the surrounding area.

Hertsmere Borough Council said the appeal had been dismissed becasue of the effect of the scheme on future viability of the pub.

In addition, the development was deemed inappropriate because the pub is on Green Belt land.
