New jobs at a West Watford Morrisons could be under threat after the supermarket chain announced plans to axe 2,600 roles.
The company said it is aiming to overhaul its management structure just six months after opening a new superstore in Ascot Road.
The store created around 300 new jobs when it opened in December.
The first shoppers entering Morrisons when it opened in December.
Today’s announcement comes after the company suffered a more than 7 per cent slump in quarterly sales earlier this month.
In response Morrisons is looking to slim down its management and cut prices to compete with other budget supermarkets.
The main positions at risk are managers and supervisors.
Dalton Philips, Morrisons chief executive, said: "This is the right time to modernise the way our stores are managed."
"These changes will improve our focus on customers and lead to simpler, smarter ways of working," he said.
Morrisons said it was too early to say how the job losses would affect individual stores.
