The new Mayor of Hertsmere has led a flag-raising ceremony, ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
The Mayor, Councillor Carey Keates, was joined by council staff, councillors, members of the Royal British Legion and Rabbi Salasnik at the ceremony.
Across the United Kingdom, similar flag-raising ceremonies were taking place in a universal show of support to honour Britain's armed forces.
Councillor Keates said: "Now, more than ever, it is appropriate to recognise and remember the contribution of our armed forces, securing our safety and those of our children. It was a tremendous privilege to lead Hertsmere's flag-raising ceremony as one of my first official duties as the borough's mayor."
A bugler, Adrian Temple, played the last post, followed by a minute's silence, which was observed outside the civic offices in Borehamwood
