Preparations are underway for the unveiling of a new war memorial in Leavesden.

Leavesden Community Group has been raising funds to replace the old Sandstone memorial, which is based along the High Road and replace it with a new granite memorial.

The voluntary group hope to unveil the new memorial in mid-July.

Melvyn Beaumont, chairman of Leavesden Community Group said: "We have still got a reasonable amount of work to do as a group."

Watford Observer:

Turf for the new memorial was laid down by Mr Beaumont and his brother Stephen Beaumont on Tuesday June 24.

The memorial will commemorate the centenary of the First World War and will feature the names of the 27 people from the parish who were killed during the First World War.

The memorial will also commemorate the servicemen and women who were killed during World War Two and other "subsequent conflicts."

Watford Observer:

There have been a number of events to try and raise money for the new memorial, which the voluntary group hope to unveil by mid-July.

Leavesden Community Group held a raffle at the end of April, and on Friday March 28, the community group held a quiz at Leavesden Green School.
