A "very special" great-grandmother celebrated her 111th birthday in central Watford last month.

Ying Ho has been a resident at Bupa's Brunswick Court Nursing Home, in Stratford Road, for two years.

On Friday, June 13, Ying’s relatives and staff in the home held a special party to mark her reaching such an impressive age.

Ying, who was born in 1903, is originally from Hong Kong and moved to the UK in 1947 to help her son run his Chinese restaurant business in Portsmouth.

She has two children and six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren - all of whom visit her in the home.

Ying’s granddaughter-in-law said she was a "very special lady".

Po Chu Lee, who lives in Park Avenue, said: "Ying is a fantastic woman. She is always positive, no matter what.

"She has always had a great diet which is her secret, along with a small glass of Sherry every evening."

Ying previously lived in another Bupa home in Portsmouth but moved to be closer to her family living in and around Watford.

Wendy Walker, home manager at Bupa's Brunswick Court Nursing Home, said: "Ying is a very special lady and we love having her live with us in the home.

"We were delighted to celebrate such a remarkable birthday with Ying and all her family."

Ying Ho is the oldest resident living in one of Bupa’s care homes.
