Hertfordshire Health Walks has teamed up with Watford Community Housing Trust’s Nifty(over)50 programme to bring free taster health walks this summer.

Getting involved is simply a case of putting on a pair of sensible shoes and joining one of the taster walks.

The next walk is on Monday evening, July 14, from Meriden Community Centre exploring Berry Grove Woods and the River Colne.

Meet at 7.30pm outside Meriden Community Centre, Garsmouth Road, North Watford, WD25 9ET. The hour-long walk is three miles, followed by refreshments.

On Sunday August 10 at 2pm, there will be a longer 90 minute walk exploring Croxley Common Moor, Croxley Hall Woods and the Ebury Way.

Meet at Holywell Community Centre, Chaffinch Lane, off Tolpits Lane, West Watford, WD18 9QD.

The Hertfordshire Health Walks are co-ordinated by the Countryside Management Service and led by trained volunteers.

There are over 40 weekly walks across the county and if these taster walks are popular they’d like to recruit some volunteers to lead regular walks in Watford.

Isabel Crozier, from the Countryside Management Service, said: "Many of the volunteers who lead walks on the Hertfordshire Health Walks scheme do so to improve their fitness, meet new people, walk in the beautiful green spaces and countryside that surround their homes and also give back by volunteering their time to support a cause that helps everyone access the same benefits."

Volunteers don’t need to be over 50 or fit to volunteer as the walks are open to all and graded from ‘first steps’, a 20 minute stroll, up to 90 minute rambles.

Join one of the taster walks and talk to the leader, visit the website, www.hertfordshirehealthwalks.org or telephone 01992 588433 for more information.
