The six-year-old girl who died following a road traffic collision in South Oxhey yesterday afternoon has been named as Lara Fernandes-Pontes.

The incident happened at about 3pm in Hayling Road and involved a collision with a Land Rover Discovery.

Lara was taken to hospital where she sadly died. The family, who live in South Oxhey, have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Sergeant Chris Kent said: "This is a tragic loss of a young life in these circumstances. The family are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

"The driver and the occupants of the vehicle were unharmed but obviously shaken by what happened.

"At the moment we are investigating the circumstances of the collision and whilst we have spoken to a number of people at the scene, we’d be keen to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened and has not yet spoken to officers."

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Rupert Gadd via Hertfordshire Constabulary’s non-emergency number 101, citing reference ISR 449 of July 13.
