This week 180 householders in Bushey and Bushey Heath have been invited to display a poppy plaque in their window or on their front gate to show a serviceman from World War One lived in their house.
The men, who served at all ranks and in various theatres of war, lived or lodged in the terraced cottages, Edwardian villas and grand mansions of Bushey, Oxhey and Bushey Heath. The plaques indicate that in some houses there was more than one fatality.
Biographies of the servicemen from Bushey will be on display at the exhibition ‘Bushey during The Great War: A Village Remembers’. Full details of the exhibition and accompanying events, which run from August 4-24 at The Bushey Academy, can be found at: www.busheyworldwarone.org.uk
