Four of Watford’s parks have received prestigious Green Flag awards - including for the first time, Oxhey Park.

It is the sixth year that both Woodside Playing Fields and Cheslyn House and Gardens have been awarded their flags and the eighth year for Cassiobury Park, which won its first award in 2007.

The Green Flag national award scheme, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill said: "We have made our parks our top priority because our residents tell me that these spaces are important. A green flag from Keep Britain Tidy recognises that people in Watford are benefiting from green open spaces of the very highest quality."

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: "We are delighted to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Award parks and green spaces.

"A Green Flag Award provides national recognition for all the park staff and volunteers who, through their dedication and hard work, have helped to create these fantastic places for everyone to enjoy.

"Quality green spaces are a vital resource for communities and that is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before."

Did you cut her short? Didn't it go on to say "And we will take every opportunity to concrete over Watford's green open spaces if we think can make a quick buck from doing so"?

No? Should've done.
