Sporting enthusiasts in Kings Langley are set to benefit from a cut of £250,000 of National Lottery cash.

Dacorum Borough Council’s Get, Set, Go Dacorum scheme is set to receive funding that was allocated under Sport England’s Community Sport Activation Fund.

Sports clubs in each of the "target areas", of which Kings Langley is one, will receive extra money to help them meet increased demand and the sport and fitness activities will be tailored to each specific area.

The other target areas across the borough are: Adeyfield, Bennetts End, Woodhall Farm, Hemel Hempstead Town, Grovehill, Highfield, Leverstock Green, Watling, Tring Central and Berkamsted West.

Cllr Neil Harden, the council's Portfolio Holder for Residents and Regulatory Services said: "I want to thank everyone who will be helping bring more sporting opportunities to the borough.

"Although we are a mostly affluent borough there are areas and communities in Dacorum with their own issues that must not be overlooked. We've identified where there are barriers to improving health and wellbeing and with this funding we aim to give people the opportunity to get fit and active, and give people access to other services and support that they need.

"We are investing in our sporting community to bring about long term improvements that will make a real difference to people's futures."

Dacorum Borough Council is one of 88 projects to receive a share of £15 million.

Mike Diaper, Sport England Director of Community Sport, said: "It’s great to be working with innovative projects, like Get, Set, Go Dacorum to offer people the chance to get into sport in a way that best suits them.

"The investment being made through the Community Sport Activation Fund is making a real difference at a very local level. I’m particularly pleased that more than half the funding is going into projects in deprived areas, helping more people develop a lifelong sporting habit."
