Work has started on a new £250,000 gym in Bushey.

Bushey Grove Leisure Centre is due to be opened next month by Paralympian and gym member Derek Derelangi.

The new gym will be managed by Hertsmere Leisure in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council.

It is set to include more than 80 pieces of the latest gym kit from leading fitness equipment providers Star Trac and Octane.

The council say the gym will provide a wide range of training options for the complete beginner to the most advanced user.

The gym is also set to include the latest FitLinxx technology to enable users to track their progress against their fitness goals and get updates direct to their smart phones.

The new gym at Bushey Grove is part of a wider programme of refurbishment across the centres within Hertsmere which included a new gym at the Furzefield Centre in Potters Bar in 2012 and a new gym at The Venue in Borehamwood in 2013, both costing £250,000.

Councillor Brenda Batten, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and health, said: "This is fantastic news for leisure centre members as well as those who are thinking about joining a gym in Bushey as the new equipment at Bushey Grove will be the latest on the market and will really help users get the most from their workout.

"Derek is a real inspiration so it’ll be great to see him open the new gym. It’s also great to see Hertsmere Leisure investing not only in the borough’s facilities but also in the health of residents throughout Bushey, Borehamwood and Potters Bar."
