Roadworks that are causing "chaos" in Kings Langley are running late and could continue affecting traffic until the end of the week.

Construction on a new roundabout in Lower Road, Nash Mills, is expected to continue until Friday after being scheduled to finish yesterday.

Businesses in Kings Langley had expressed concern about the roadworks in and around the village, with one buisness owner describing the traffic earlier this month as "chaos."

The road is one of the major routes out of the village towards Hemel Hempstead and traffic was being diverted through Kings Langley High Street due to the road closure.

Marilyn Evans, owner of Design Wardrobe in Kings Langley High Street said: "It is an absolute nightmare trying to get into Apsley. If I try and go that way at night to go towards Sainsbury’s, it is a real nightmare."

"It [the traffic around the High Street] will affect trade. To what extent is not easy to calculate but it will obviously affect trade."

Simon Hoggett, spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council, said: "The full road closures of Lower Road and Red Lion Lane, Nash Mills, ended yesterday, Sunday 31 August and roads are now open. However the final surface of the carriageway has not yet been laid.

"This work will necessitate overnight road closures (from 8pm to 5am) this week to enable completion as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience and would ask everyone for their co-operation while the work is competed."

Hertfordshire County Council are warning that delays are likely while they finish off the work.
