A Watford delivery office will be one of many Royal Mail depots that will be open on Sundays.

The Caxton Way office will be open between noon and 4pm from Sunday in an initiative designed to make it easier for online shoppers not at home during weekdays to collect their parcels.

Royal Mail’s network of about 1,400 delivery offices is currently open six days a week.

This new scheme will extend the opening hours of about 100 delivery offices with the highest parcels volumes across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to seven days a week.

Tony Fox, operations director, said: "We are continuing to be more customer responsive and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online.

"I am delighted to pilot Sunday afternoon opening at around 100 of our delivery offices across the UK with the highest parcel volumes, including Watford."

I think we should get the postage refunded if we have to go and collect items.

The Royal Mail Collection Office in Watford so far away and inconvenient from Central Watford, middle of nowhere in Caxton way. I remember standing in long queue before Christmas and getting wet in rain outside their Collection Office. Then there was no return bus to go home that day so had to walk with few other people for another mile before we managed to find a bus to Central Watford.

Royal Mail monopoly on last mile mail delivery should end now that it is fully privatised and so expensive to use.

Collect + is much better postal service as it allows letter/parcel collection from nearby shops with very long opening hours and no queues at all like in the Royal Mail Delivery Office.

All the big shops like Tesco, ASDA , M&S, Sainsburys , Debenhams, Argos, Halfords, Currys offer ' Click & Collect', which as a free service saves time and money by not using Royal Mail/Parcelforce or any other courier company. Amazon lockers and Inpost & Doodle parcel collection service in major stations in London may one day save us from visiting remote Collection offices of Royal Mail/ Parcelforce combine.

Why? Its not the Royal Mails fault that you werent in when they tried to deliver the item, or are you saying they should be clairvoyant and know you'll be out?
