Watford are holding "ongoing discussions" with Fulham midfielder Derek Boateng but face competition for the 30-year-old's signature from French side Evian.

The Hornets have long been linked with Boateng and Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen today confirmed the Golden Boys are in talks with the player.

“There has been interest in Derek from Watford and also from Evian in France," Meulensteen told West London Sport.

"There are ongoing discussions between the clubs and the player.”

Boateng moved to Fulham on a free transfer in the summer and impressed in pre-season.

Since then however, the Ghanaian has struggled to establish himself in the first team, making only three Premier League appearances.
