It has been a successful start to 2014 for fencers from Three Rivers Young Blades with the club’s Under-13 team claiming a gold medal at the Leon Paul team event in Hendon.
The side of Dan Darby, Phoebe Dolan, Amanda Mond and Kishan Sisodiya went through the event unbeaten, winning all five of their poule fights and then going on to claim victory in three knock-out bouts in a row.
Their strong results meant Three Rivers edged Camden Fencing Club to the gold.
Club chairman Mike Ellis said: “Our Under-13 group have shown a tremendous improvement over the past year and really gelled together as a team.
“It was a fantastic result compared to our last entry in this event when we finished outside of the top eight. What a difference a year makes. “It was also great to see our Under-15 team improve on their position and they were unlucky to miss out on a medal by finishing in fifth place.”
The medal success continued as Jasmine Porter claimed a bronze medal in her first under-15 event.
