A Barry Ashby goal proved mere consolation as Watford went down 2-1 to Charlton Athletic at the Valley, deepening their relegation concerns in the process.

The game provided an inauspicious debut for recent signing Craig Ramage, whose flamboyant contributions would prove a feature of Watford's play for the next two-and-a-half years.
