Watford defender Nyron Nosworthy has joined Bristol City on loan for an initial month with a view to extending the deal until the end of the season.

Nosworthy has only made six appearances for the Golden Boys this season after missing the start of the campaign following surgery on his Achilles in March.

The 33-year-old started five consecutive games between November 23 and December 14 but has only featured once since, in the FA Cup third round tie with new club Bristol City.

“I just felt we were a little short after what’s happened with [the injured] Aden (Flint) and [suspended] Adam (El-Abd),” Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill told their website.

“He’s someone I’ve had in the back of my mind since doing well against us in the FA Cup and we’ve built up a good relationship with Watford.

“He’s a good lad and has fitted in well already with the lads in training today. It’s great we’ve been able to get him on board.”

It was revealed Nosworthy was likely to leave the club on loan in February during his court case following an altercation with a cyclist last year, which resulted in the Jamaica international being sentenced to 42 days imprisonment, suspended for two years and £3,300 compensation to the cyclist. In mid-February head coach Beppe Sannino claimed Nosworthy’s absence was because of footballing reasons and not off-field matters.

Sannino explained: “I can tell you I am very happy with Nyron and he is an extraordinary guy. What happens in his private life is personal and I can’t comment.

“What I can tell you is Nyron, at the training ground, is a professional and a very good guy.

“We have other players in his role though and at the moment I am picking them for this role. But that is just a technical decision.”

Nosworthy first joined Watford on loan in late 2011 and his superb performances during 13 games persuaded Sean Dyche to sign the defender permanently the following January.

Nosworthy has made 61 appearances for the Golden Boys during his two-and-a-half years at the club and his contract expires in the summer.

The London-born centre back started his career at Gillingham before joining Sunderland, where he had a six-and-a half year spell although two of those were spent out on loan at Sheffield United and then Watford.
