West Herts Hockey Club will be celebrating tonight after their men’s first team secured promotion to the National League and secured the East Premier A title this afternoon.
The Stags effectively sealed their rise into the big time with a 3-1 win against Bedford last weekend to leave them three points ahead of Harleston Magpies – and crucially with a superior goal difference – going into their trip to Wisbech.
Harleston were held to a 2-2 draw at Norwich City in their final game of the season which meant West Herts won the title irrespective of the outcome of their match.
But the Stags capped a triumphant season in style, securing a 5-2 victory to win the title by a five-point margin after winning 17 of their 22 league matches this season.
We will bring further details of the Stags’ success and reaction to it over the coming days.
