Troy Deeney rounded off his superb 25-goal season by winning two Player of the Season awards at Watford’s annual end-of-season dinner last night.

Having been presented with the Watford Player of the Season award prior to the Hornets’ dismal 4-1 home defeat against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, the striker was also handed the Players’ Player of the Season accolade at Shendish Manor Hotel.

The awards began with former Watford Observer Sports Editor and long-serving Hornets correspondent Oliver Phillips handing over the Supporter of the Season honour to his friend and club historian and statistician Trefor Jones.

Sean Murray emerged ahead of fellow nominees Alex Jakubiak, Jonathan Bond and Cristian Battocchio to lift the Young Player of the Season, but Battocchio didn’t leave empty-handed as he won the Community Ambassador honour.

One of the biggest cheers of the night was reserved for popular talismanic former striker Heidar Helguson, who called it an “honour” to become the latest entrant into the club’s Hall of Fame.

The 4-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday was selected as Team Performance of the season, while Gabriele Angella’s audacious flick in the 4-2 loss at Nottingham Forest saw the Player of the Season runner-up pick up the Hornets’ Goal of the Season.
