Manuel Almunia has not spoken to Watford about remaining at the club and says he can’t make a decision on his future because he currently doesn’t have any options.

The Spaniard joined Watford just under two years ago after leaving Arsenal and his second one-year contract with the Hornets expires this summer.

The 36-year-old made 38 appearances for the Golden Boys this season and kept ten clean sheets.

Speaking on Tuesday, Almunia said he was hoping to discuss his future before the end of this week, when the players depart for their summer break.

He said: "I speak to the club a lot. I speak with (technical director) Gian Luca (Nani) and the directors but that’s about the club and about things with the team.

"We haven’t spoken about me. We will have a meeting I hope before Friday otherwise they’ll have to find me at my home," he said whilst laughing.

He added: "I can’t make a decision on my future because I have no options. When I finish training on Friday I will go home and wait for a phone call."

Almunia was appointed captain last summer following the departure of John Eustace, although he filled in for large parts of his first season due to injury to Eustace.

Hornets head coach Beppe Sannino did not want to speak about individual players’ futures but when asked about Almunia, he replied: "The focus now is to finish training on Friday and complete our job. After that we will see what happens. To speak about only one player is not fair.

"My opinion though is Almunia is a very good man and a good player."

Almunia was speaking as part of an extended end-of-season interview, more of which will be Watford Observer tomorrow.
