Hemel Hempstead opened their league season with a 61-run defeat by Harpenden on Saturday.

Harpenden were put into bat after Hemel won the toss and made 233 for eight.

Scott Galloway made 52 and Nick Lamb helped himself to 51 for the visitors.

Brett Penny was Hemel’s most effective bowler, taking three wickets for 41.

The hosts were then bowled out for 172, Brad Finch the top-scorer with 41 runs.

Ben Frazer took four for 32 for the visitors.

Championship

Langleybury were beaten by Totteridge Millhillians in their campaign opener, losing out by three wickets.

Hosts Totteridge won the toss and put Langleybury into bat, believing the surface would get easier with wear in time for their innings.

Bowled out for 221, the visitors had set Totteridge a respectable target, with Rich Soulsby (42) and Will Oxley (39) impressing with the bat.

Totteridge eventually prevailed with a total of 225 for seven, Steve Selwood’s 89 not out helping them secure the win.
