Gary Johnson has confirmed that Marek Stech has rejected the offer of new contract at Yeovil Town amid claims the Czech Republic international goalkeeper is “poised” to join Watford.

As we reported yesterday, the Hornets are understood to have made a move for the 24-year-old and the Glovers boss has told the Western Gazette that Stech, along with Byron Webster and Luke Ayling, have turned down the opportunity to remain at Huish Park.

“We’ve heard from all and near enough all of them have said they won’t be returning,” Johnson said. “They’ve all turned down the contracts offered, but that’s a matter of course anyway.

“We’ve tried to speak to either them or their agents and they won’t be coming back to Yeovil so we’ve got to not have them in our thoughts and look to the next ones that we can give an opportunity to look to.”

You can read our story on the Hornets becoming ‘favourites’ to sign Stech here.

Would love this to be true, as you said, Westwood is a very good goalkeeper, haven't particularly watched Stech properly but would be confident he has what it takes to take on the cursed position Ben Foster left with us

Anyway, we need SOMEONE to speak English to the Sky reporters after the matches.

Are you aware that we appointed an Italian goalkeeper coach months ago? Alec did an excellent job with Foster and I don't recall any problems with Kusack.

I've heard that Almunia never wanted Chamberlain to do work with him. I remember watching before kick-off a few times and Chamberlain never did a warm up with Almunia... interesting.

True. Almunia has probably said his goodbyes. Good shot stopper but does not command six yard box at corners. But a big thank you to Almunia especially for the excitement of double penalty save against Leicester. Luv theHorns!

I alway thought there was something strange about our goalkeepers and Alec Chamberlain. All of them have show massive potential and I include Scott Loach then something stops the development. The only factor common to them all is Alec. No wonder Manuel Almunia and Tomasz Kuszczak did not work with him.

My girlfriends brother was playing for Yeovil a couple of seasons ago so I saw quite a few games that Stech played. Very good presence in goal and produced some amazing saves. I would say he was a large part of why they got promoted. The experience he has gained through playing for Yeovil will have been invaluable considering how many shots he will have had to save last season! I think this will be a great signing AND it will be FREE!

Was he also a large part in why they got relegated then ? Westwood would be the ideal signing if we mean business he is a better than decent keeper at this level.

People who are suggesting he should go are insane.

I cannot believe some of the drivel on here today, why all of the sudden is Chamberlain a bad goalkeeping coach? Just for the record, the man as a man is a class act. Back in the dark Vialli years, when my son was very young, Alec was his hero. I wrote to the club and he very kindly agreed to meet our son after the match. The game was a drab 0-0 draw with Bradford City. After the game the Stewards new that my son was to meet him and arranged for us to be taken to the dug-out seats. Alec appeared five minutes after the end of game team talk, in his kit (as he thought it would make for a better photo as opposed to him in his suit). he then handed our son a signed photo and sat for fifteen minutes talking about life as a goalkeeper, Dad and everything in between. Watford FC has a rich history of fine goalkeepers, yet in this modern era of comfort from behind a keyboard, so many are so quick to criticize. Yes, my comments are on here to reflect the mark of the man, a class act, but I can tell he carries himself professionally on the training ground as well. He has been a welcome addition to the coaching staff, held in high regard by Malky, Dyche and Zola all previously - none of these are what you could call poor decision makers. People are totally entitled to their opinions, but it really annoys me when they attack WFC legends and above all decent people.

People are totally entitled to their opinions, but it really annoys me when they attack WFC legends and above all decent people.
You are talking total rubbish mate..,

His tequniches are 10 years behind, if he was any good Malky would have taken him to Cardiff, the game has moved on,he was good 12 years ago,I agree, but not now...

I've supported the horns for over 45 years, the last 10 sitting just behind the goal in the rookery. In my opinion, the reason we see a growing list of goalkeepers leaving he Vic with their confidence in tatters is the sizeable number of supposed supporters shouting constant abuse at our keepers if they make a mistake. It can't do anything for their confidence . Reading some of the comments here, I guess many of the posters on here sit around me behind the goal. What we should be doing if any of the team are going through a bad patch is support them, isn't that what supporters are supposed to do

Talking of rubbish, how about your maths? His techniques are 10 years out of date (2004), he was good 12 years ago (2002), and yet only since 2007 have keepers gone backwards... Eh? As another poster has pointed out, if AC was that bad surely at least one of your examples would have done better somewhere subsequently. None of them have. Or are you now claiming that he has systematically, and single-handed lay destroyed the careers of young Watford keepers.

And yes, Malky did come after him.

The game has moved on, but goalkeeping positioning and tactics have not changed much at all. I just think that you have it in for AC (you are entitled to your opinion) but I think you are way offside. I would say Foster was our last excellent keeper, probably in line with your thoughts, but where do you draw the line between player ability and coaching ability? The players themselves are accountable, and far too many failed this season in all areas of the pitch. To single out one coach seems like a scape-goat situation to me, and to be honest a bit spineless.

Are you aware that we appointed an Italian goalkeeper coach months ago? Alec did an excellent job with Foster and I don't recall any problems with Kusack.
Kusack was an experienced goalie but was only with us for a few weeks/months. As someone else has reported Almunia (allegedly) did not like working with Alec. Both of these guys are far better keepers than Alec ever was. A good honest guy and a great servant of WFC but I agree perhaps there must be question marks over his ability as as a coach. Alternatively maybe Bonham, North, Lee, Loach and Bond etc do not have what it takes to make it to the top. Foster the exception but again he was well regarded before he got to Watford.
Agree with others that Bond needs a loan at a lower level to get game time as next season could be make or break for him.
Would be happy with with Stech or Westwood as No: 1 next season.

As another poster has already pointed out, Malky DID want to take Chamberlain to Cardiff but Alec decided to show loyality to WFC - something that Brendan and Malky did not do. You can't have it both ways.

I do not know whether he is a great, good, average or poor goalkeeping coach, but Malky - a good judge imo - believes he is. Think of all the decent (?) young keepers we have had since Alec has been here, Richard Lee, Loach, Pidgeley etc. Only Foster, a loanee has gone on to acheive post Watford, and he was most complimentary about Chamberlain both as a keeper and as a personality (something this squad is a tad short of).

When was the last great goalkeeper as a youngster we brought through ? David James comes to mind but he had the odd ricket in him after his first excellent season and then with his other clubs and England. And before David ? Pat Jennings probably. That's 1964 and 1990.....

I think it is a bit harsh to lay the blame for the ack of godd young keepers coming throughat Alec's door.
Also, many contributors state that our (Italian) management team are not familiar with the Championship. alec offers that experience as he has spent the majority of his career at this level. Again can't have it both ways.

How many times did you watch Bonham play? He was being released before making a pro appearance...

Lee was never really our first choice (2 seasons where he played 30 odd matches out of 7 or 8 at the club) so it's not a surprise he is the division below

Generally keepers impress until they make a series of mistakes. The top keepers bounce back (look at Joe Hart this season). The guys you mention were never top keepers - that is not Chamberlain's fault.

In terms of him being 'out of date by 10 years' is that because he retired 7 years ago? Would Peter Schmeichel also be no good? Do you watch his training sessions and know what he does with the keepers?

Here's how it is : Lee = Brentford Bench. Loach= Ipswich Bench and released. Bonham = Arlesley Town. Bond= Our Bench.. So that's how the great Alex I mean Alec has done with the keepers. I rest my case. The High Life Buck!
I think Alec should be congratulated for making that lot look half decent. At some point the players have to take responsibility for their development - Alec can only do so much.

Well, you don't have a problem with false modesty. From your postings you obviously don't sell educational aids, and from your aggressive attitude you probably sell land mines or semi-automatic guns. Maybe second-hand cars or double glazing.
Has it occurred to you that, since AC was coaching these youngsters from school age, his coaching has lifted lads with no more than mediocre ability into overachieving? Loach playing for under 21's? Lee a reliable if unspectacular keeper, Foster subsequently playing for England. Excepting Foster, a keeper with true ability, who praised AC, these lads have fallen away. No matter how good the coach, if they overachieved due to top coaching they will be found out. I just hope that Bond is not another who is overachieving. Malkie is no fool---he wanted AC to follow him to Cardiff.

Not only that but when McPie wanted to take him he said no because he's loyal! Also how people state he is the reason for a goalkeeper not to progress is rubbish we have seen Foster do well under Alec and every manager and goalkeeper we have had have spoken positivley about Alec. Re Almunia I guess age and experience may be a factor in deciding he does not need a coach on his shoulder to help. I really hope Almunia moves on as he has had his best and we need fresh hands now.

Strange one this because at one time there was a call to get rid of Sean Dyche when he was coach because the defence was leaking too many goals - possibly Alec is not the problem and we have had a series of Keepers who have not progressed.

Bottom line on the AC debate is we have no idea how good at coaching he is. Those who employ him do, and they continue to employ him. Says it all.
I guess Manuel at 13,7 or however old he is, already had a set fitness/training regime and wanted to stick with that, not thinking he could be taught new tricks at 137. Fair enough.
