Bushey Seconds continued their good start to the season with a five-wicket win at Offley and Stopsley in Herts Division Eight.

The hosts elected to bat and wickets fell regularly.

Taimoor Maqsood (three for 55) and Arshad Zarin (three for 29) helped restrict Offley to 156 for eight.

Chanaka Gunawardena (83 not out) anchored Bushey’s reply of 160 for five.

Langleybury Thirds claimed an eight-wicket win at Harpenden Fourths.

Harpenden elected to bat, with spinners Josh Cornes and Kevin Kelly helping remove the opposition for 74.

The Langleybury openers found the going tough, reaching 40 with Fry out for 22 before Roe and King reached the required target with eight wickets to spare.

Hemel Hempstead Fourths lost to Reed Thirds by 41 runs in a low-scoring affair.

Richard Morton (six for 33) and Rahul Wickramsinghe (three for 27) saw Reed off for just 140 but Hemel couldn’t capitalise.

The hosts bowled Hemel out for just 99, Andy Burgess top-scoring with 33 for the visitors.

Abbots Langley Thirds fell to a 43-run defeat at Pirton in Division Nine.

Batting first, Pirton looked like they were on their way to 200 when they reached 80 for two in only 20 overs as Abbots toiled.

However, the evergreen pair of Bob Russell (four for ten) and Parish Solanki (two for 18) halted the run-scoring, before James Allan (two for ten) bowled Pirton out for 155. Abbots didn’t find things any easier as they slumped to 25 for four, but Clive Winder (22), and Lee Rossitter (29) gave them a glimmer of hope before they were bowled out for 112.

Kings Langley Thirds were held to a frustrating draw at Knebworth Park Fourths.

The home side finished on 189 for nine after Kings had posted a commanding total of 244 for four.

Skipper for the day, Tom Templeton scored 63 not out and debutant Martin Hendy was unbeaten on 53.

Josh Oldham then took five wickets for 89 for Kings with Templeton taking a further two and David Burnell one; crucially the final wicket did not fall, though.

Leverstock Green Thirds beat Harpenden Dolphins by 12 runs, despite failing to make it into treble figures for the second week in succession.

Ninety-seven all out was recorded for the second successive match by Levy – but unlike the previous week’s failed run chase, the total proved 12 runs too many for Harpenden Dolphins to chase down on a very green Rothamsted Park track.

Steve May’s four for 18 from nine overs put Levy on course for victory, backing up earlier efforts with the ball from vice-captain Brett Baney (two for 14) and Karl Turner (two for three).

Chorleywood Thirds picked up their first win of the season in Division Ten with a two-wicket victory away at Mill Hill Village Seconds.

Having asked Mill Hill to bat first, Nigel Tyler and David Harrigan took early wickets before inducing a major collapse as the hosts lost five quick scalps.

However, some late-order hitting saw Mill Hill get up to a defendable total of 140 all out, with four wickets each for Tyler and Harrigan in the end.

Wood’s reply started slowly as they lost early wickets to find themselves at 41 for three, before a stand of 43 between Charles Hardcastle (40) and Mike Reeve (17) steadied the ship.

Eventually Wood found themselves eight wickets down with still 25 runs to get but a slow and steady unbroken stand from Harry Hardcastle and skipper Rob Dunstone eventually saw them home as Dunstone hit the winning boundary in the 58th over.
