Watford loanee Essaid Belkalem has made Algeria's final 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The 25-year-old also scored with a volley from close range during his country's 3-1 win over Armenia in a friendly in Switzerland on Saturday.

Belkalem has been on a season-long loan with Watford and the Hornets have an option to sign the centre half, although he only made seven starts and three substitute appearances during the 2013/14 campaign.

Algeria are in Group H at this summer's World Cup with Belgium, Russia and South Korea.

Algeria's 23-man squad: Mohamed Zemmamouche, Rais M’Bolhi, Madjid Bougherra, Faouzi Ghoulam, Essaid Belkalem, Rafik Halliche, Djamel Mesbah, Carl Medjani, Aissa Mandi, Liassine Cadamuro, Medhi Lacen, Yacine Brahimi, Adlene Guedioura, Hassan Yebda, Saphir Taider, Riyad Mahrez, Mehdi Mostefa, Nabil Bentaleb, Sofiane Feghouli, Abdelmoumene Djabou, Nabil Ghilas, Islam Slimani, El Arbi Soudani.

Bet you he plays really well for them. I don't wish 'ill' on any Watford player so I hope he does well for them.

The guy never looked fully fit from the start, if he has a good world cup and a decent pre season he could turn out to be a god player. i think he would be more suited to a back four which has been half a problem this year, with the lack of pace we have at the back a back four would be much better all round as it provides much more cover

In other news; Sky Sports are reporting that Watford are trying to sign Juan Carlos Paredes, a very very fast wing back from Ecuador.

Good luck to him. Obviously, we did not see the best of him for whatever reason. Some players just take time e.g Henry, Drogba etc. Other may not be good enough, but some top European clubs were said to be ineterested in him. Isn't he signed to Granada, so don't expect him back for 2014/15

Good luck to the 'big yin'.
It's hard (and unfair) to judge players based on a few games, with limited fitness, and in a league that they never played before.

I'm sorry, but Belkalem doesn't cut it for me, and I don't think he'll be back next season.
In one game he did play (can't remember which one but it was one of those 5 successive home defeats) he just backed off, didn't challenge and the opposition player just strolled through to score, think it may have been Hughes for Derby. It reminded me of Raleigh putting his cloak down to let Elizabeth the First walk through without getting covered in mud!
Anyway, good luck to him in Brazil - he'll need it!
