Chipperfield Clarendon, Leverstock Green B, Radlett and Watford Town A into last eight of Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield
The line-up for the quarter-finals of the Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield is almost complete after four more second round ties were played in the past week while the outstanding round one fixture was also completed.
Holders West Herts, Abbots Langley, and Langleybury A were already through to the last eight and have been joined by Chipperfield Clarendon, Leverstock Green B, Radlett and Watford Town A.
The remaining second round tie to be played sees Met Police Bushey entertain Watford Haidery A after the latter saw off Rickmansworth School Staff, who became the last of the six defeated first round sides to qualify for the Plate.
The quarter-finals were originally meant to be completed by tomorrow but organisers are hoping the fine weather will hold into next week to enable these ties to be completed and the semi-finals can still go ahead as planned on Wednesday, June 25 and the following day.
Chipperfield Clarendon secured a home quarter-final against Abbots Langley after they comfortably dispatched Watford Haidery B by seven wickets on Thursday of last week.
Excellent figures of five for 15 from four overs by Shawn Mepham, supported by Steve Durrant’s three for 25, enabled the Chipperdons to dismiss their opponents for 95. In reply, the hosts reached the target in 8.4 overs.
Leverstock Green B’s tie against Rickmansworth on the same night was much closer, with Green getting through by virtue of losing fewer wickets.
Batting first, Ricky made 128 all out before their oppponents lost a wicket off the final delivery of the match – run out attempting the winning run – as they ended on 128 for nine.
Watford Town A now await the victors of Met Police’s clash with Haidery A after they defeated last year’s beaten Shield finalists Bushey by eight runs on Tuesday night.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Town made 130 for six from their 14, eight-ball overs after Adnan Mohmand contributed a valuable 30.
Chirantan Hazirka was Watford’s star with the ball, taking three for 24 as Bushey could only reach 122 for six in reply.
Radlett were far more convincing against Chenies & Latimer 24 hours later, easing to an emphatic 95-run victory to set up a last-eight date at home to Green B.
Opener Shane Burger led the way with 59, supported by Chad Barrett (36) and Randeep Sanghera (22) as Radlett reached 149 for three from their allotted overs.
Chenies had no answer to the Radlett attack in their response as they were dismissed for just 54, with Dan Foster claiming a superb five for 16 and Ben Lederman weighing in with three for four.
The outstanding first round tie saw Haidery A cruise past Ricky School Staff by nine wickets in rapid time on Monday.
It took Haidery just five overs to reach the target of 102 all out as Zawar Hussain cracked an unbeaten 70.
Revised semi-final draw (seeds in bold): West Herts or Langleybury A v Chipperfield Clarendon or Abbots Langley (to be played at West Herts CC on Wednesday, June 25); Radlett or Leverstock Green B v Met Police Bushey/Watford Haidery A or Watford Town A (to be played at Met Police Bushey on Thursday, June 26).
Note: In the event either West Herts or Met Police Bushey reach the semi-finals, the order of the games will be swapped to ensure no side has ‘home’ advantage.
The completion of the Shield first round enabled the draw for the Plate to take place yesterday.
The circumstances were not ideal because the the identity of the two beaten second round sides to join the six first round losers has still to be confirmed. But organisers decided to go ahead with the draw to avoid any further delays.
Plate first round ties were originally scheduled to be played by Friday, June 20 but there is a further week for the games to take place before the semi-finals are due to be held in the week beginning Monday, June 30.
Representatives of those teams currently involved should have received their draw information today.
Plate round one: Frogmore v Rickmansworth School Staff; Leverstock Green A v Langleybury B; Shield second round loser with best net run rate v Shield second round loser with second best net run rate; Aldenham v Kings Langley.
