Watford's transfer targets from Udinese and Granada will not be travelling on their pre-season trip this time around

The Golden Boys return from their summer break on Monday and immediately head to Italy for a three-week training camp but the Watford Observer understands transfer targets like Matej Vydra will not be among the travelling party.

In previous years players not yet contracted to the club have joined the Hornets squad for their pre-season trips ahead of moves but we understand that is not the case this time around.

The close relationship with fellow Pozzo-owned clubs Udinese and Granada meant players have trained with Watford for several weeks before their moves were finalised in the past.

Similarly, in previously trips some Watford players have not travelled on training camps as they were not expected to be involved with the first team during the following season.

However, we have been told all players who have professional contracts with the Hornets which go beyond June 30, when some deals expire, will be heading abroad with their team-mates, including Troy Deeney, who is expected to attract Premier League interest before the transfer window closes.

The summer signings will be travelling but we understand Lloyd Dyer and Heurelho Gomes will be linking up with the squad a couple of days later due to pre-booked holidays and breaks.

The Golden Boys will spend the first week of pre-season just outside Udine, the city in northern Italy where Udinese are based.

They will then be based just across the border in Austria for the following two weeks and will play two games in as many days in Bad Bleiberg before they return home.

On Saturday, July 12 the Hornets play Russian club and participants in last season's Europa League Rubin Kazan, with kick-off 6pm, and the next day they face German third division side FC Chemnitzer at 5pm.

The club say the full address for the venue of the two matches will be confirmed in due course.

I know, and you couldn't really blame him, the championship is a tough league and you put your body on the line a as striker every time you go out there, so you have to really want to play in it. But still, even the possibility of it is still enough to get a little bit excited over

Another Wobby wind-up? Until we hear positives such as the possible Tozser signing expect negative posting on here. Every year the Championship gets stronger so we need a good start to the season. Luv the Horns!

without knowing who our players will be and even perhaps who the manager will be ? The definition of blind faith. Presume you predicted top 2 last year ?

mid table at best, and that's being optimistic.

Forget Vydra, would be nice to see him back at The Vic. But Troy staying is far more important the way he puts himself around and fights for our cause. We need a player like Troy that battles hard, runs back and is so blinking fit.

This article is WO nonsense. Why should Vydra be on a trip when he is not our play either fully signed or on loan ? Clearly in the last 2 seasons, the players who were 'about to join' who came on loan had already agreed to come to us. In the case of Vydra, it is not so. Personally, as much as I would like to see him back (given committment from him and fitness), this Vydra business is becoming an obsession and has become a bit clutching at straws.

Not convinced Vydra is the answer anyway - Troy has developed as a striker during the last two seasons and would now benefit from a partner who is prepared to put in a shift. If Troy goes, which is likely, and we are left with an uncommitted Vydra then I think we will struggle unless we have other options.

Love the certainty that some people have when they speculate on here

Another non-story with Vydra headlining that asks more questions than it answers. Smashing.

The Skeptical Optimist says...

Obviously if Vydra doesn't want to play for us, there's little point in us signing him - I'd rather have an average player who puts in effort every game than a talented player who doesn't care.

However, I really get the impression he's a bit deluded right now. He expects to be playing in the Premier League this year - and, being realistic, after last season at West Brom, the offers won't come flying in...

It seems quite feasible to me that by mid-August, with still no offers, his agent may have a chat with him and perhaps persuade him that he needs to be more realistic. For this reason, I don't think it's unlikely he'd come back to Watford, but if he doesn't, I'm completely fine with that.

All this talk about Vydra not wanting to come back to Watford has come from a few translated sentences probably misinterprited and clown out of proportion. He is a professional and IF he does come back I will judge his desire by his performances.

Like all players they want to play at the highest level they can and he is no different.

I for one would still love to see him back in yellow. One of the most naturally gifted players weve seen in years.

PozzoHornet says...

I feel we're more likely to get Vydra in January or next season. My reasoning is that Vydra/his agent (I don't know which one is which nowadays) has said that he either wants to play in the Prem or in Serie A, i.e. with Udinese, or loaned out to someone like Sampdoria or Aston Villa. Therefore, he'll wait all summer for an offer from the Prem and when it doesn't come, he'll be stuck with the option of fighting for a place with Udinese or being loaned to someone else. He might do well in either situation, and if he does, we won't get him. Hopefully he'll stay on the bench in Udine and come back to us for first team action in January.
