Watford's average league attendance rose 15 per cent last season - the fifth highest increase in the Championship

Watford Observer: Picture: Holly Cant Picture: Holly Cant

Only four Championship sides saw their average league attendance rise more than Watford’s last season.

An average of 15,514 supporters attended games at Vicarage Road during the previous campaign, an increase from 13,464 during the 2012/2013 campaign.

That rise meant the Hornets’ stadium was 89 per cent full on average – the joint second largest 'occupancy' total across the Football League last season.

Watford’s highest home attendance was 16,611 against Queens Park Rangers on December 29 whilst their lowest was 13,904 when Birmingham were the visitors on Tuesday, February 11.

Those totals meant the Hornets' crowd variation - where the lowest home gate equalled 90.7 per cent of the highest home gate of the season - was the second best in the Championship.

That's not bad at all considering the sort of season we were having.it will be interesting to see the take up on the new East Stand. Vydra is likely to add to the season ticket tally as well. If and its a big if we can hold onto our current players. It should auger well for a record season. Fingers crossed!

If we averaged 15.514 last season with an 89% occupancy rate, how can you expect to increase the average attendance by 3,486 (22% increase) because there are more seats?

Yes, confirmed by the football league website. Our away support was almost identical to the previous year which is equally amazing

Pretty sure they count all season ticket holders in (can't explain QPR attendance).
All the same, pretty decent figures. Would like to see few more seats filled in Family Stand.

Given that the away support at the Vic was probably constant, the growth in the home support is even stronger - a testament to the entertainment value. It would seem this growth continued into the Sannino era, which suggests that the Zola factor initiated the increase, but was not the defining one.

Hopefully this increase will continue with the re-built east stand. But let's face it we are relatively small club and always will be.

I think unless we start playing really badly, our attendances will continue to go up a bit. I know of a 'supporters' who don't go to games because they can't get 2 or 3 seats together or there's just the rubbish seats left. The East stand should free up more better seats around the ground. It's great that we're not relying on the Kids for a Quid days to get good attendances, however it would nice to see these again, maybe on a Tuesday night in half term.

If you were "saving" us from illegal immigrants, I'm sure people wouldn't have a go at UKIP. It's more that the party's representatives have been made up of people who have publicly been racist.

Maybe a good way of bringing our attendance up would be to have more Italian immigrants in Watford. Ha

I bet most people in the country have made a dodgy remark, Yes, even those clowns who continually vote for the liars cheats and deceivers in LibLabCon, but anyone who relies on the good old biased BBC for their news is sadly lacking in reality, Have a google of QMV and the 1st November 2014 when the UK and other EU states basically lose sovereignty and almost any power the UK government has is passed to the EU under Lisbon and Rome treaties, you lot are still prepared to be hoodwinked into an EU socialist superstate.

eturning to matters vaguely football-related, it's my understanding that season ticket-holders are very definitely included in attendance figures whether they turn up or not. The 600 variance at the QPR game was simply down to no-shows. In fact if nobody at all was in the ground for a league game, I assume the official attendance would be given as 12,000 or however many season-tickets we've shifted. Impressive numbers whatever.

Apologies for repeating this, as I put it right at the end of another thread, but I still can't help seeing UKIP Ted as a Teddy Boy Ted, with a greased back DA, brothel creepers, and a long purple drape jacket with yellow lapels...
I tend to wear a shirt and tie most days including to Watford matches, standards have slipped these days but dressing smartly shows respect to others.

Hopefully UKIP will implement some policies that helps educate the children of today old fashion British values.

If we averaged 15.514 last season with an 89% occupancy rate, how can you expect to increase the average attendance by 3,486 (22% increase) because there are more seats?
Tend to agree, if you look at the attendances in the run-up to promotion in 2005/06 - still not full back then. I took advantage of the bulk tickets in the spring and got excellent value for money. I would suggest that the club looks at incentives to fill the new east stand for youngsters and senior citizens for example. May be a family ticket for 2 parents plus 1, 2 or 3 kids etc.

I am concerned at the average age of supporters which seems to be increasing but by not much less than one year per annum. We need to encourage younger fans (the club's long term future) with..

1) good exciting football.
2) winning football.
3) great facilities.
4) friendly attractive ground, staff, fellow supporters etc.
5) school related activities by the club and by the players. The open day is also an excellent intiative and gaining popularity.

Although, I look back towards the old days with affection, I wince at the facilities we had. The dreadful burger bars, outside toilets etc.... But I am sure that our owners will have strategies to acheive that or else why invest in the new stand?

Definately helps counting season ticket holders in the number!!
Season tickey holders are not counted in the numbers if they dont turn up, hence the game vs QPR which was 'sold out' got 16,611 when the capacity was 17,200.
Pretty sure they count all season ticket holders in (can't explain QPR attendance).
All the same, pretty decent figures. Would like to see few more seats filled in Family Stand.
The attendance figures are made up of all pre-sold tickets, which includes all STs, plus those sold on the day. Definitely not the number of people in the ground. That's why the club started the "no show" line, to keep the number of people in the stadium as high as possible.

And the relevance to our average home attendance is.........??
The relevance has nothing to do with footy, and I agree not a hornet subject or issue YET !, so are you saying that a topic once raised by someone else shouldn't be responded to ?, Wish there was a more open debating forum for what is going on outside our cosy little Hornet world, some people will be very shocked indeed at what is happening, let's hope it doesn't impact on our club or footy in general.

All a bit too xenophobic and paranoid as well.
Actually I'm not trying to win anyone over, so the old claptrap " xenophobic and paranoid come out when you could have taken a look and researched a bit, I am sure you would think otherwise, it's the same as the old "racist " tripe... all said to stifle debate and divert attention to what is going on....why not take a look and see if you are still of that opinion once you have taken the trouble to educate yourself.

Don't worry, qualified majority voting will have little impact. Most people will have no idea of it's existence or what it even means and it will have no impact on their everyday lives. Ignorance is bliss basically.

I just wish it was a 'socialist super state'. However the 'leaders' of the member countries are almost all conservatives someway on the right of the political spectrum. The reality is that people like you have no acceptable political home. You are extreme right-wingers, maybe fascists, maybe racists for whom we have no place in our society. People like you would probably have joined forces with Hitler in the 30's. You can only trot out right-wing abuse and have no positive contribution to make to our society. It's almost funny that extreme right-wingers are not able to see that we are being run by conservative politicians and their neo-capitalist friends, our captains of industry and finance.
