Watford remain confident of completing a deal for Hungary international and Genoa midfielder Daniel Tozser

The Watford Observer understands the Hornets remain confident of agreeing a deal with Daniel Tozser after reports in Italy stated that he would join Parma before being loaned to Watford.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier this week that Tozser would join Parma and would then be sent to Vicarage Road for a second loan spell.

However, neither the Hornets, Tozser’s current club Genoa or Parma have confirmed a deal.

The 29-year-old signed on loan with the Hornets in January and missed just one game after arriving at Vicarage Road.

He featured for the full 90 minutes in his 20 appearances, despite arriving at Watford having not played competitively since May 2013.

Tozser impressed during his first two months with the Hornets before his form dipped, with club staff suggesting tiredness was a contributing factor.

While the Hungarian international remains Watford’s primary target for the holding midfield role, the club have made enquiries regarding a move for veteran Italian Massimo Ambrosini.

The 37-year-old has 35 caps for Italy and spent 18 years at AC Milan before moving to Fiorentina last summer.

Ambrosini is available on a free transfer however and Hornets boss Beppe Sannino holds the midfielder in high regard.

“Who wouldn’t like to train him? He’s one of the most serious Italian players, a really good professional,” the Watford head coach told Tuttomercatoweb.it.

It'll be a way of avoiding taxes on the transfer/ contract, or maybe in anticipation of any further rule limiting the number of transfers between certain clubs. In the same manner, sell on fees mean very little in Italy, as clubs do 'double transfers' and get the player they want with the sell on fee for nothing and a random unknown reserve player for big money.

As 1st July has passed and still no developments you'd assume it's the transfer fee that's the problem.

Any chance we could get both?

Obviously 1 is better than neither, but I reckon Ambrosini sounds like someone who could be seen as someone to look up to and learn from in training, even if he isn't a first team regular. And even then, if Tozser last season was finding the number of games in the Championship a strain, they could fill in for each other as needed.

After all, I don't think we really have a defensively minded central midfielder in the squad at the moment... It might be useful to have a backup.

To get their hands on a Udinese player that they do actually want.
Parma buy Tozser, loan him to us and then Udinese let them buy the player they want.
That way Udinese don't have to pay money for a player who's coming to Watford and reduce teir wages bill with a player who they feel may ahve reached his peak value.

A lot of people seem to be either very confident of at least play offs or promotion, others almost certain and obviously others whose expectations aren't entirely serious. But just think the signing of Vydra, Dyer, Gomes and potentially Tozser (other signings less so) doesn't necessarily guarantee us anything. A lot has changed since 2 seasons ago, Vydra may not necessarily jump straight into 22 goal a season form and lets not forget where we finished 13th last season with a lot of the same players. Signings can benefit the team, but personally I think its great team performances and a step up from the team generally that will win us promotion. Don't want to be too negative hopefully everything will click and Tozser will sign, just not many people seem to have said the same thing.

Exactly we now have a squad with an expectant over their heads of minimum play offs, how things have changed from just a few years back were all we wanted was to remain in the Championship! I myself get caught up into this minimum demand and want bigger better players a 4 sided ground and bigger crowds at home games, this is football a sport that makes you greedy for everything and more and long may it continue. Now back to my reality demands , Nani I want you to go and get Vidal, Sanchez and James, as we might as well shell out now for the long term plan, if we want to be Prem champions, right!!! COYH's.
