Beppe Sannino hopes Watford will be able to switch formations depending on the opposition this season as the Hornets continue their preparations for the new Championship season in Austria.

The Hornets head coach decided to keep the 3-5-2 system employed by predecessor Gianfranco Zola following his appointment last December, despite favouring the 4-4-2 formation during his time in Italy.

Sannino said that was because he wanted to keep things simple for the Hornets players and that he didn’t have the time to overhaul the formation midway through a campaign.

Watford have utilised a 4-3-3 formation in their first two pre-season matches, with the two forwards flanking the central striker providing the width, as opposed to the wing-backs used in the 3-5-2 shape.

Speaking to the club's website, Sannino said: "I am searching for a team who can change formation and work in different systems like 4-3-3 or 3-5-2, for example. It is important for us that we are ready to change depending on the opposition.

"At this stage I am looking more at how the team moves the ball around the pitch and the shape of the team, not the goals scored," he explained, after seeing his side run in eight goals in victories over SV Feldkirchen and SK Austria Klagenfurt.

The 57-year-old also highlighted the importance of the group bonding ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Watford have already made six additions to the side. Heurelho Gomes, Gabriel Tamas, Craig Cathcart and Lloyd Dyer are all new to the group and Sannino says pre-season is the time for the players to gel away from the field as well as on it.

"The pre-season, is for me, decisive, because day after day we are together for training, for dinner and then to have a coffee," explained Sannino.

"The players are boys, some are young, some older, for me I want them to speak to each other and get to know one another, to spend time together and to be compact."
