Geoff Morton was born in Acton, Middlesex.
Signed by Eddie Hapgood from Chelmsford City in 1948, Morton was the last line of a defence that earned a club-record eight consecutive league clean sheets the following season.
On Hapgood's controversial dismissal early in 1950, Morton submitted a transfer request but ultimately stayed for another two years, racking up more than 100 appearances before moving back to Essex with Southend United.
