A football tribunal ordered Watford to pay £175,000 for Oldham Athletic midfielder Paul Atkinson.

The decision resulted from a late hike in the asking price by the Latics, who upped their valuation in the wake of the sale of Luther Blissett to AC Milan; Watford had offered £100,000.

Atkinson made only eight starts in two seasons at Vicarage Road before rejoining Oldham for a fraction of the fee.

Yes Oldham Pathetic had a cheek as part of their case for extracting more of a transfer fee for Atkinson said Watford got £1m for Luther.

GT decided to take it on the chin but sadly Atkinson was rubbish and was not worth the £80,000 Watford wanted to pay.

Many Watford supporters with coaching and a fitness regime could have put him outside of a starting place in about 6 months, but no we have the lemon playing at Wembley.
